Aldfrith, the first one, he was a Witch, they say... one of the first that the Mother spoke to... one of the first to heed Her call. There's something most strange in that blood, I tell you. Since the first one and before. There's no telling how far back it goes.

ELIAS KYNEDYR

He is of the night sky,

the winter's heart,

the northern wind,

and the hidden moon.

Family: Third child of Torin and Mercia Kynedyr; brother of Nolan, Alroy and Rhian; Grandson of Regan Kynedyr, the Laird of Llandrian; Nephew of Edrik Kynedyr; Nephew of Anson Kynedyr, Laird of Harloch; Cousin of Glew Kynedyr; Nephew of  Shiana Hagensen

Background: As the third son of a noble line, Elias was already destined to grow up in the shadows of his older brothers. However, upon his birth, it was readily apparent that he was different: unusually pale with hair much darker than any Kynedyr in Llandrian, and eyes of silver-gray. Thus, it was clear that, like his uncle Edrik before him,  Elias was touched by the Aldfrith blood he carried.  This made him even more of the outsider in his own family than he normally would've been. There was an advantage  in this circumstance, though. As he grew, he was left largely to his own devices. It's a freedom he's come to enjoy.

When Elias reached the appropriate age for fosterage, he wasn't sent away to be reared by another noble family... not even to his uncle Anson, in Harloch. For a third-born, and particularly for one with such well-placed relatives, this was unusual. Perhaps it was because his father feared no one would have him? Regardless of the reason, Elias was instead placed under an informal fosterage with Iden and Aislin Tremayne. Iden, the Druid of Llandrian, took him on as something just shy of an apprentice. With the Tremaynes (and the Kynvelyns) Elias found a level of acceptance he didn't know with his own immediate family.

In 1365, Piers Haxx arrived in Llandrian, to be fostered by the Kynedyrs. Torin Kynedyr, who apparently wanted nothing to do with the arrangement, immediately passed off the Northlander as Elias' responsibility. The two have since become the best of friends. 

Description: Elias is slight of frame and just a touch taller than average. His features are delicate and could even be referred to as "pretty". Growing up, he was often mistaken for a girl. Though the height he's reached serves to make this error a less frequent occurrence, it still happens more often then he'd like. In attire, Elias favors darker tones.

Background: The first sign that Ethme was going to be different was her red hair. To the Ffolk, having red hair indicates that one is touched by the spirits. Being of Aldfrith blood as she was only made people all the more certain that Ethme carried a spark. Even so, no one expected that spark to be a literal spark: a talent for fiery sorcery.

Ethme first manifested her gift after watching the wizard Ibrahim perform a simple cantrip. Days later, she imitated his movements, spoke the word he spoke, and much to Ethme's and her sister's surprise, she ended up with the same result: a blue flame dancing in her palm. It lasted for only a few moments, but she successfully repeated the trick scant minutes later. It was obvious then that the the first time had not been a fluke. Ethme's arcane potential had begun to awaken.  

Yet this is not the only gift Ethme has exhibited. During her childhood, she consistently demonstrated an interest in matters martial. Although she trained and practiced regularly with her friend Odara all throughout her youth (her "training" usually amounted to little more than Odara beating her up) , it wasn't until Ethme's twelfth year that her natural talent in swordplay was genuinely recognized by Vangrid Hagensen. Vangrid considers her to be touched by Tempus, but he has admitted this to no one other than his wife.

Description: Ethme is a striking young girl with a bright personality. She is prone to let her distinctive, fiery-red hair flow freely about her shoulders. There is little doubt that she's going to grow into a beautiful woman.

Background: Unlike her sister Ethme, Jenna never overtly exhibited special gifts. However, there were those that recognized their presence nonetheless, such as her father, her mother, her great aunts Sorcha and Nuala, and the Old Warden of Liddenholm. Jenna's talents, subtle as they may have been, were in the making of things. Although many, including perhaps Jenna herself, assumed that she would follow in her mother's footsteps and become a potter, it has recently become clear that she is meant to walk a different path.

Jenna's craft is to be that of a witch. She will soon become fully initiated, thereby carrying on what has been an ancient Aldfrith tradition.

Description: Jenna's normally quiet demeanor matches her understated appearance. She wears her long, dark brown hair pulled back in a practical braid on all but the most special occasions. Her brown eyes tend to have a pensive, often distant, look, at least until something sparks her ire; then her expression becomes as implacable as iron.

17 year old Human Male (Northlander)

Bithdate: 30th of Ches

Family: Son of Hirger and Elsbeth. Half-brother of Anselma.

Background: Born to a minor Northlander warlord of the Korinn Archipelago, the fact that Piers' mother was Ffolk insured that he'd never achieve significant status amongst his father's people. Recognizing this, and wanting her son to be exposed to more than the Northlander culture had to offer, Elsbeth arranged to have Piers fostered with her extended family back on Snowdown. Piers was sent to the Kynedyrs in his 11th year.

Since arriving on Snowdown, Piers has made himself a member of the fisherfolk community. He's also developed ties to the hunters, mostly through his cousin and friend, Elias. Though he has picked up an eclectic mix of training in various professions, the bulk of his time has been devoted to matters nautical, under the supervision of Llandrian's resident Northlander, Hagen. To date, Piers has completed the construction of two boats, and he is now able to fish on his own. 

When meeting Piers, most do not think him a Northlander, because he really doesn't look like one. However, despite his mixed blood and his years-long immersion in Ffolk culture, Piers holds fast to his Northlander heritage, and he isn't ashamed to point out where his roots lie.

Description: Though he has the physique of a rauthymar and his father's blue-gray eyes, Piers' complexion is more like that of the Ffolk. The common assumption is that he gets this from his mother, but in truth, the olive tone of his skin and his soot-black hair are more likely manifestations of ancient netherese ancestry. Ironically, Piers may be more a true Northman than his own kin.
